Klein opens up about split from Holmes

The actor began dating Holmes in 2000 and proposed to her three years later, but the romance fizzled out a year later, and the former couple split in March, 2005. In a candid new interview with People magazine, Klein says, "We found comfort in one another... We had a similar upbringing and we were going through the same experience (in Hollywood). As the teenage craze came to an end, we found that our relationship was changing as well. "From my side there was a lot of denial and fear about the future. It ended as amicably as these things can end." The couple was trying to keep the break-up under wraps when Holmes began quietly dating Cruise. She called her former lover with the news she was dating her childhood idol so as to make sure he heard the news from her. Klein adds, "When we were breaking up, we kept it to ourselves for a while. It looked like it was Katie and Chris together and two seconds later Katie and Tom together, but that's ridiculously compressed.

Can Tom Cruise Save the Weapon that Costs More than Australia?

Image
The actor will fly the embattled F-35 in the new sequel to 'Top Gun.' Paramount Only one man can rehabilitate the tarnished image of the F-35 warplane, and he goes by the name of Maverick. The F-35 is the most expensive weapons program in history with projected lifetime costs of one trillion dollars--or more than Australia's entire GDP. The program has been plagued by so many cost overruns and delays that the Economist warned of a possible "death spiral." For budget hawks, the F-35 program is a target rich environment. The 2010 bipartisan Bowles-Simpson Commission on deficit reduction suggested halving the number of F-35s for the Air Force and Navy and replacing them with F-16s and F-18s, which would save close to $30 billion from 2011 to 2015. The magazine Foreign Policy recently asked experts to name defense programs that should be axed, and the top choice by far was the F-35.
