Kevin Winter/Getty Images The Friars Club will present itsEntertainment Icon Award to Tom Cruise at its annual Friars Foundation next month. The award, which the group said is its highest honor, will be bestowed on Cruise on June 12 at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in midtown Manhattan. Hes about to go solo, and his final show with the band is at The Bourbon Room. Its a homecoming of sorts, as he played his first gig there back in the day. But fame and fortune may have come too easily to the front man who, after years of indulgence, has become boozed up and blas to the point of bored, and less than reliable when it comes to showing up for his own shows. The casting of Stacee Jaxx turned out to be somewhat serendipitous. I was thinking to myself, Wouldnt it be cool if we got one of the biggest movie stars in the world to play one of the

Morning Mail! Are Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes Headed for Splitsville?

Image
Dimitrios Kambouris/WireImage Dear Ted: Is it true that Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes have quietly separated? I noticed that the last time they were pictured together was during the Vanity Fair Oscars after party. Katie is currently in Connecticut filming and locals are saying that Tom was never therewhich is weird considering how he would always visit whenever she's filming. Or maybe Tom's just busy? And oh, what do you think about Alexis Bledel as Anastasia Steele? Bella Dear Trouble for TomKat?: Way to sneak in a casting question, B! But to answer your first: Tom and Katie are just fine. Katie's simply busy filming and Tom recently gushed over his wife in the June issue of Playboy , plus they've got adorable Suri to keep the family together! Divorce rumors are always swirling around these two, so methinks the time apart is just a scheduling hiccup. Oh and as for Alexis? Already said, I'm a fan of the idea, but I'm still sticking by Lily Collins as my numbe

"Tom really did, because he comes and he's not a dancer at all. But what affected me more than anything is the way he approaches his craft. And being in Hollywood, it's a hit or miss about seeing people that are really about the art. With him, he is relentless and you have to be right there with him." Whore of the Worlds: How Tom Cruises Couch-Jumping Changed Stardom Forever [Anniversaries]

"Tom Cruise like I've never seen him!" is how Oprah Winfrey described it on May 23, 2005, at the top of an episode of her show that would go on to become its most memorable: the one with the couch jumping. She wasn't lying. Cruise was known for being guarded and tight-lipped about his private life, and his effusive display was enough to overshadow his career and to redefine his star status. Reporting on Paramount's decision to sever its 14-year production deal with Cruise in 2006, the New York Times described the post- Oprah events as , "Tom Cruise's yearlong metamorphosis from pure box-office phenomenon to pop-culture punch line." Today, the episode turns seven years old, and it is still everything you remember it to be. Hicks: Tom Cruise starring in 'Magnificent Seven' remake, reports say

Just stop with the remakes already. Variety reported Tuesday that Tom Cruise is set to star in a new version of "The Magnificent Seven." Someone needs to make a new law stating the following: "No remake shall be made of a film that can't be improved. Now stop being lazy, spit out the organic egg white omelet, and think up some new ideas." The film would be the latest in a long line of remakes in the works at MGM, with versions of "Carrie," "Poltergeist" and "RoboCop" all at various stages in the production process. Cruise is apparently a big fan "The Magnificent Seven." The original film (itself a remake of Akira Kurosawa's "Seven Samurai") tells the story of a group of gunslingers hired by a village of Mexican peasants to run off a marauding gang of banditos. Yul Brynner, Charles Bronson and Steve McQueen headed up the all-star cast. Now, unless you can get some of those guys cloned and back on board, this j
