Tom Cruise becomes victim of swatting prank

Tom Cruise has become the victim of a swatting prank.

Police were called to the Jack Reacher star's Los Angeles home when they were alerted of an apparent armed robbery in progress.

According to E! Online, when authorities arrived at the actor's quiet home it became apparent that the call received early on Thursday afternoon (January 17) was a prank.

"It was determined the residence belonged to actor Tom Cruise, and no emergency was discovered," the Beverly Hills Police Department stated.

"Neither Mr Cruise nor his family were home when the emergency was reported. Beverly Hills Police Department Detectives will be investigating the incident as a crime due to the false report."

Miley Cyrus, Justin Bieber and Ashton Kutcher have also been victims of similar false reports made to the police.

A minor was arrested last month on suspicion of wasting police resources in the Bieber and Kutcher cases.
