Tom Cruise, Katie Holmes relationship 'over six months before split'

Tom Cruise's relationship with Katie Holmes had reportedly come to an end six months before they announced their divorce.

Holmes filed to end her marriage to the Mission: Impossible actor back in June and the couple's divorce was finalised less than two months later.

According to court documents obtained by the National Enquirer, Holmes's romance with Cruise had "broken down irretrievably for a period of at least six months immediately preceding [the filing]".

The papers also allegedly reveal that the pair officially married at a civil ceremony in Los Angeles in November 2006, not at the extravagant Scientology wedding held in Italy that same month.

Cruise and the Church of Scientology have recently been forced to deny that they held 'wife auditions' following his divorce from Nicole Kidman in 2001.

Representatives for the star have also dismissed reports that he is dating Knight and Day colleague Cameron Diaz.
