Oblivion featurette: Tom Cruise talks blue collar space thriller, director promises danger VIDEO

Judging from a new Yahoo! Movies featurette for Oblivion, Tom Cruises Jack Harper is a guy who doesnt have the full story. What he does have is a work ethic and a monumental task to clean up Earth after it was destroyed by war before his birth.

In the featurette, Cruise sheds light on Jacks connection to this Earth of the past, particularly his curiosity about the war relics he gathers in a Little Mermaid-style collection. The teaser also offers new clips from the film directed by TRON: Legacy helmer Joseph Kosinski, who promises plenty of danger. Watch below.

One of Oblivions thrills: Whenever Jack is on the surface, theres a possibility of ambush from the robotic alien species that apparently took over the planet and decided to stay after it was decimated. Though Cruisedescribes his character as blue collar, there seems to be plenty under the surface when a mysterious woman unlocks a trove of memories that cause him to question the reality he has passively accepted his entire life.

So what could the titular Oblivion be? What is Jack missing? Find out when the film hits theaters April 19.
