Five Very Quick Years on Mars; A Tom Cruise Sidekick Summit

We realize there's only so much time one can spend in a day watching new trailers, viral video clips, and shaky cell phone footage of people arguing on live television. Hypothetically, we suppose it's possible for a timelapse video of outer space to be less-than-mesmerizing, but we've yet to see one and frankly doubt we ever will. For all the talk over the summer about NASA being at a crossroads now the Shuttle program is done for, we'd support a fresh line of Mars rovers, just so we can see another five years worth of still photos turned into a three minute viral video clip. Paramount has released another clip from the new Mission: Impossible movie, and sadly, it doesn't feature Tom Cruise running down the face of a single. In fact, Cruise isn't even in it. It's just second and third bananas Jeremy Renner and Simon Pegg arguing about the proper way of approaching the next act's big action sequence. It's loose and funny, but since it's a Tom Cruise movie, you know they're going to settle on the plan that lets him climb on the most stuff. [Yahoo Movies]

If you haven't reached your weekly limit on grisly zombie violence, Granta has a terrific animated adaptation of a non-existent horror movie that features prominently in Roberto Bolano's new short story "The Colonel's Son," which the magazine ran in its October issue. The clip isn't embeddable, so you;ll have to click through, but the illustrations (by Granta illustrator Owen Freeman) are vibrant, eerie, with much less sweating than you get on an episode of The Walking Dead. Rocky: The Musical may never happen, in which case we'll just have to cherish the overproduced video press release announcing the project.
