Tom Cruise covers Bon Jovi in 'Rock of Ages' - new trailer (Video)

Tom Cruise, shirtless and tattooed, performs Bon Jovi's 1986 anthem "Wanted Dead or Alive" on stage in the new '80s rock-themed film "Rock of Ages," as seen in a new trailer that was released online.

In the movie, which hits theaters on June 15, the 49-year-old actor plays "icon of rock" Stacee Jaxx, the lead singer of the band Arsenal.

"Did you know that to prepare for his role as Stacee Jaxx, Tom Cruise studied with Axl Rose's voice teacher five hours a day?" said a message posted on the official Facebook page for "Rock of Ages."

The film is based ! on a Bro adway musical, whose cast recording does not feature songs from Rose or his band Guns N' Roses. It does, however, include tracks from other "hair metal" and '80s rock legends such as Twisted Sister, whose lead singer Dee Snider starred in the stage show, Poison, Whitesnake, Foreigner, Journey, Joan Jett and Def Leppard, which released the title song "Rock of Ages" in 1983.

The film is directed by Adam Shankman, who directed the musical movie remake of "Hairspray." In "Rock of Ages," Julianne Hough plays main character Sherrie Christian, a small town girl who has moved to Los Angeles to pursue acting. She becomes involved with both Jaxx and aspiring rocker Drew Boley, portrayed by Diego Boneta.

Bryan Cranston plays the mayor, Mike Whitmore, whose wife, played by Catherine Zeta-Jones, wants to shut down an iconic rock club in the city's Sunset Strip. Russell Brand portrays Lonny Barnett, the venue's manager, while Alec Baldwin dons a wig to play Dennis Dupree, its owner. Christian at one point becomes a stripper to pay the bills and Mary J. Blige plays the owner of the club that employs her.

The singer "got into character by visiting strip clubs and doing 'homework,'" according to the movie's Facebook page.
