Tom Cruise still hopes for 'Top Gun' sequel

Tom Cruise has revealed that he still hopes to star in a new Top Gun movie.

When asked about a sequel to the 1986 fighter pilot film, he told MTV News: "We're working on it. We'll see what happens, if I can figure out the script and we get it. It would be fun getting into those jets. I want to get in those jets!"

Cruise last spoke about the possibility of a second Top Gun movie in December, revealing that he was discussing the idea with original director Tony Scott and Jerry Bruckheimer, one of the 1986 film's producers.

"We all want to make a film that is in the same kind of tone as the other one and shoot it in the same way as we shot Top Gun," he said at the time.

Cruise - who played LT Pete "Maverick" Mitchell in the 1986 film - could potentially be joined by original castmate Val Kilmer, who has also expressed an interest in the sequel.

Cruise, 49, is currently promoting his new movie Rock Of Ages, in which he plays fictional rock frontman Stacee Jaxx. The film opens in UK cinemas tomorrow (June 13).
