When Katie Holmes filed for divorce from Tom Cruise the actress made it clear that daughter Suri was her main priority as did Cruise who later agreed to his now ex-wife retaining full primary custody of their daughter.

While the six year-old is clearly important to both of them it seems now that having a child could have also been the reason that they drifted apart as in an interview done before the split, Katie Holmes states that having her daughter definitely didn't bring them closer together.

While the actress, 33, is careful not to say that Suri caused a rift with her husband of five years who she married in a lavish ceremony in Italy she makes it clear that having a child didn't enhance their relationship.

In an interview with C Magazine she said on Suri bringing them closer: "I don't know. I mean?I don't know. People have been having babies a long time,"

Katie also went to great lengths not to mention Tom Cruise at all throughout the interview and though refers to him never actually speaks of him directly.

"Holmes was certainly very aware of herself, laying a couple cards on the table but never showing her whole hand," senior editor Kelsey McKinnon claimed.

"Most noticeably, the one name decisively absent from her lexicon: Tom Cruise. She never actually refers to him by name over pages and pages of transcription."

It is believed that Katie had been planning the split for months before filling for divorce and despite knowing the marriage was over still gave the impression that the couple were on good terms right up until the end of their marriage.

The couple agreed on the divorce settlement just 11 days after the actress initially petitioned for divorce with K! atie hav ing set up home in New York with her daughter.
