Newly adopted Irishman Tom Cruise has told the countrys biggest television show that he is happy with his brogue over 20 years after his Irish accent was slated.
The Far and Away star told the Late Late Show on national broadcaster RTE that his attempt at speaking in an Irish accent is fine.'
The interview was pre-recorded with host Ryan Tubridy and aired on Friday night, 48 hours after Cruise received his certificate of Irish heritage in Dublin from deputy PM Eamon Gilmore.
The Irish Independent reports that critics have claimed that Cruises latest attempts to speak like the natives is no better than his Irish accent in the 1992 movie Far and Away which was universally slated.
But the Hollywood actor told Tubridy was fine when the presenter asked if he had picked up any tips from Dubliner Colin Farrell on the set of Minority Report.'
Cruise insisted: Its fine, Ryan. Ahh, its grand to be here today.
In Dublin to promote his new movie, Cruise again thanked the tourist bodies for confirming his Irishness.
He added: I am still so excited about discovering the extent of my Irish roots. I was aware of it but had no idea I was so Irish.
