Tom Cruise - Tom Cruise Is New Favourite For Clint Eastwood's A Star Is Born

Tom Cruise has been tipped as Clint Eastwood's leading man in the actor/director's forthcoming musical remake A Star Is Born.

A host of Hollywood actors, including Leonardo DiCaprio, Russell Crowe and Hugh Jackman, have previously been linked to the project - opposite Beyonce - but new reports suggest Eastwood is now interested in casting the Mission: Impossible star after being impressed by Cruise's portrayal of an '80s rocker in the upcoming Rock of Ages movie adaptation.

The original Star is Born was a big screen hit in the 1930s and it has already been reworked twice, with Judy Garland and James Mason in 1957 and Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson in 1976.

New mum Beyonce will follow in the footsteps of Garland and Streisand for a modern take on the classic movie, about an ageing, alcoholic musician who mentors and falls in love with a younger female star.

Production is expected to begin later this year (12).
