Tom Cruise Explains His Impossible 'Mission' In Dubai

Forget Daredevil Tom Cruise is the man without fear. The "Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol" star has been suspended from wires, cliff-sides and more in his day, but Hollywood's most famous thrill-seeker has topped himself with his latest "Mission."

We're talking, of course, about Cruise's now-famous Burj Khalifa stunt, the Dubai set piece that sees the actor dangling from the tallest building in the world. Exactly what IMF agent Ethan Hunt and his crew of disavowed spies are doing infiltrating the building remains to be seen, but Cruise credits director Brad Bird for coming up with the idea.

"Bird designed it," Cruise told MTV News at the "Ghost Protocol" press junket held in Dubai. "When I saw it, I said, 'Man, this is incredible. I've gotta put this on screen.'"

Cruise spoke about the particulars of getting the stunt approved, a process that wasn't easy by any stretch.

"When I saw the animatic of it, we spent a lot of time figuring out how we're going to do it, how to convince the Burj Khalifa to pull the windows out. They were worried about the engineering. I had a safety officer at first that said everyone has to wear parachutes."

Cruise's response to that mandate? "Well, we gotta get a new safety officer," he laughed. "We're doing this! We need someone who 'doesn't care as much.'"

If you're looking to visit the site of Cruise's infamous Burj Khalifa stunt in person, the "Mission Impossible: Global Hunt" sweepstakes is giving you the chance. Two winners will be selected for a trip to visit Budapest, Moscow and Dubai, all locations critical to the latest "Mission Impossible" installment.
