NEED a rent-a-crowd of 200 fans to scream at Tom Cruise? Mission possible - in India they're $3 each.

Despite being one of the most recognisable stars on the planet, it seems Cruise isn't as big in India as he might have hoped after a model coordinator reportedly hired hundreds of extras to scream and fawn over the star when he arrived at Mumbai airport.

Firstpost Bollywood reports many of the gathering "fans" didn't even know who the Mission Impossible star was - they'd simply turned up to play the role of a screaming fan on the promise of a small fee and a free buffet lunch.

Tom Kaun?" one of the paid junior artists reportedly asked the newspaper of Cruise. "I dont know who he is or what he does."

"We were told to come here by 1pm today and wait for a foreign VIP to come out of the airport gate and scream and shout when he came. None of us know who Tom is.

"There was a buffet lunch also for us and we were paid (150 rupees or $3) for this job today. We do this for television shows and other such events where crowds are required."!

C ruise was in Mumbai to promote the fourth instalment of the Mission Impossible franchise, Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol.
