Tom Cruise's 'One Shot' title changed to 'Jack Reacher'

Tom Cruise's upcoming action project One Shot has had its title changed.

The Lee Child novel adaptation will now be known as Jack Reacher, the name of Cruise's lead character, Paramount Pictures confirmed today (May 29).

The Paramount-Skydance Productions-produced film is scheduled for release on December 21.

Jack Reacher follows Cruise as the eponymous ex-Army officer who finds himself embroiled in a mystery connected to the arrest of a sniper accused of killing five people.

The project also stars Rosamund Pike, Richard Jenkins, David Oyelowo and Werner Herzog.

Christopher McQuarrie (The Usual Suspects) has written and directed the film.

Tom Cruise recently stated that he was "sensitive" to the backlash that arose after it was announced he was cast as Jack Reacher.

The Mission: Impossible actor has also signed up to star in a remake of The Magnificent Seven.

He will next appear in the musical Rock of Ages, to be released on June 15.
