Book's insight into Cruise, Kidman split

A new book by Pulitzer prize-winning writer Lawrence Wright claims to reveal how the Church of Scientology came between Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman.

According to Wright's Going Clear: Scientology, Hollywood And The Prison Of Belief, the leaders of the church considered the Australian actress a gold-digger who faked an interest in Scientology so she could marry Cruise.

Extracts published in The Hollywood Reporter magazine detail church leader David Miscavige's fears that Kidman had supplanted Scientology's role in Cruise's life, along with his frantic scramble to win Cruise back.
