Photos: Tom Cruise's Potential Scientology Wife Nazanin Boniadi

If the headline-grabbing feature in the October issue of Vanity Fair is to be believed, the answer is a resounding yes. The article, written by Maureen Orth, alleges that higher-ups in the Church screened women for the role of "Tom Cruise's next girlfriend" following his divorce from Nicole Kidman.

The piece centers on Nazanin Boniadi, one of the young women who became a kind of finalist in the race to be Cruises' arm candy. According to VF, Boniadi, an actress and member of the Church, was asked to audition for a "new training film," which was just a ruse to vet them for the A-list actor. The Iranian-born, U.K.-raised Boniadi was audited for over a! month, a process "in which she told a high-raking Scientology official her innermost secrets and every detail of her sex life," according to Orth.

Shortly after the rigorous prep work that required her to sign a series of confidentiality agreements, Boniadi was introduced to Cruise on a dinner date with an "entourage of Scientology aides." Cruise must have been impressed by the brunette beauty, as Orth says the pair left the restaurant for a private ice skating session at Rockefeller Center before retiring to a suite at Trump Tower. Boniadi then spent a brief time living with Cruise in his Hollywood mansion, but alas it was not a love connection.

Cruise wanted someone with a more established career and Boniadi was moved Scientology's Celebrity Centre. A few months later, Katie Holmes made her first appearance as Tom Cruise's new girlfriend.
