Tom Cruise pal denies he's turning his back on Suri because of controversial faith

He hasnt seen his daughter for over seven weeks and is currently 3500 miles away in the UK.

And after Katie Holmes decided to divorce him tongues began to wag that she was protecting daughter Suri from Tom Cruises controversial faith.

But now a friend of the 50-year-old Hollywood megastar has insisted that the devout Scientologist loves his daughter no matter what religion she is raised by and is simply busy with other commitments.

Bert Fields told People Magazine that the allegations are hogwash and added: This has absolutely nothing to do with Scientology.

This is something thats been going on her whole life when Tom is shooting a film out of the country, he has to rely on the telephone.

Meanwhile, screenwriter Christopher McQuarrie, who has worked on four films with Cruise, insists Cruise is every inch the doting father and they do indeed make the most of using the telephone to keep in touch.

He said: I can tell you that I havent had a meeting with Tom that was not interrupted by a phone call with his daughter. His heart is broken. He misses his little girl and works very hard at parenting.

McQuarrie added: His hands have been tied.

The star is currently in London where he is filming action movie All You Need Is Kill.

And with back to back film shooting following his ex-wife Katie Holmes decision to divorce him in June, Cruise has been unable to spend as much time with Suri as he would like to.

They were last spotted together on August 5 as Cruise took the six-year-old on an exciting trip to Disney World.

However McQuarrie states that this is perfectly normal when youre a movie star like Cruise.

He said: Theres a commitment [to making movies] that is huge while all this enormous change is happening in his personal life. You c! ant simp ly put a movie on hold and go off and deal with your personal issues.

He was finishing [Oblivion] when he learned his wife was divorcing him. He was immediately committed to [All You Need Is Kill] and there was no way he could not honour that commitment. You are talking about millions of dollars, hundreds of jobs.

Holmes and Suri moved to a new Manhattan home following the split and Suri has since enrolled at the brand new $39,750-per-year Avenues school, where she started earlier this month.

Aimed at the children of the jetsetting elite 'The World School' enables pupils to follow their parents around the globe without being tied to school vacation schedules.
