Authorities from the Hertfordshire Constabulary investigated the complaints and found that the gunshots had come from Leavesden Studios, where production on Cruise's upcoming All You Need is Kill is currently taking place.

A police representative released a statement saying: "At around 9pm, police received two reports of the sound of distant gunfire from members of the public in the Abbots Langley and north Watford areas.

"Officers contacted security at Leavesden Studios who confirmed that rehearsals involving the use of firearms had been taking place there during the evening."

Cruise will star alongside Emily Blunt and Charlotte Riley in the science fiction drama, based on Hiroshi Sakurazaka's Japanese light novel of the same name.
