Tom Cruise talks about Mission: Impossible 5

Tom Cruise recently talked about working on new ideas for the next movie in the Mission: Impossible franchise.

Cruise chatted with Total Film about the success of the movies and his upcoming film Jack Reacher. Cruise plays secret agent Ethan Hunt in the movies and has been a producer on all four of the films.

I started Mission: Impossible hoping I could make many of them, Cruise said. Its a character that I can grow with. At that time it was the most expensive film in the history of Paramount Pictures, and the first film I was producing.

Mission: Impossible, the first in the franchise came out in 1996. The latest in the franchise, the fourth film, Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol came out in theaters in 2011. Jeremy Renner (The Avengers), Paula Patton (Precious) and Simon Pegg (Shaun of the Dead) joined Cruise as his new team in the last movie.

Cruise is fond of his Mission: Impossible experience, saying:

Its been pretty exciting. Ill make a bunch of those. Ill make as many as people want to see... because theyre very challenging, and so much fun to make.

He says of the next installment:

Were already working on different images. Talking conceptually. I love travelling around promoting different movies because Im always looking at different places, and I always walk around to see the city. I look at architecture, subways coming up with different sequences.

Another movie would certainly be profitable and popular. MTV r! eported the four movies in the franchise have earned around $740 million domestically so far.

Fans of Cruise can see him in his new film, Jack Reacher, which will be in theaters Dec. 21.
